Sophie lives in Nice and works in a back-office admin role she picked partly because it kept her out of the spotlight. For most of her life, being asked to say a few words meant a racing heart, a red face and a night of lost sleep beforehand -- a friend's wedding toast once had her shaking. She got tired of organising her life around avoidance and started, very slowly, putting herself in front of people: a question in a workshop, a toast she did not flee, a short talk she said yes to. She writes the honest week-by-week account she wishes she had read back then, setbacks included. No speech coaching, no theatre training -- just someone who used to dread it and kept showing up anyway.
